Children, Youth, and Civil Society Organizations’ 2023 Campaign Concludes with a Call for Environmental Action

The AIDA-Child Friendly Dimapur campaign which was initiated on 17th June 2023, under the auspices of Shri. Manpai Phom, Administrator, reached its official conclusion today. The closing ceremony was honored by the presence of Shri. K. Hukato Chishi, IFS, Member Secretary of Nagaland Pollution Control Board, shed light on pressing environmental issues facing Dimapur and Nagaland at large. Addressing the gathered audience as the Special Guest, Shri. Hukato Chishi underscored the paramount importance of self-reflection and action in addressing environmental concerns. He also highlighted the commendable efforts at both national and state levels to combat environmental pollution. In his closing remarks, he called upon all participants to assume responsibility for creating clean and safe environments for all. During the event Scientist Shri. Akangmeren,NPCB also brought attention to the pollution plaguing Dhansiri due to drainage issues and has highlighted on the initiatives of the Dimapur Municipal Council, Urban Development, and the District Administration in tackling the drainage issues in the city. He stressed on the need for collective responsibility and suggested practical steps such as understanding the causes of pollution, proper waste management, and waste segregation to the participants as well as emphasized the importance of the fundamental waste segregation practices. Miss Rongsenben, Junior Scientific Assistant, has emphasized on the concept, Mission/Merillife, advocating for adopting healthy lifestyles. The key lifestyle changes include conserving energy, water, reducing single-use plastics, managing e-waste, and embracing sustainable living. The emphasis was placed on collaboration to address climate change, recognizing it as a global concern. She urged everyone to initiate change and emphasized that the time for action is now. During the event, Rev.Fr.Roy George, Executive Director, AIDA has delivered the welcome address. In his welcome address he has expressed his gratitude to various individual and organizations for their support throughout the campaign activities, speech was delivered by Ms.Khrorite-u Lasuh from Tetso College, Ms.Garrol Lotha, Project Coordinator, briefed on the campaign activities 2023. She shared that the organization has successfully reached out to almost 1088 children; youth and Civil Society Organizations who have actively participated in the campaign 2023 activities. Mr. Rhonbemo Humstoe also presented a special number. The Organizers have expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the children, youth, and Civil Society Organizations that played a pivotal role in the success of the 2023 campaign. Special recognition was extended to Team Better Dimapur, Dimapur District Legal Services Authority, Explora Youth Club, Don Bosco Hr.sec.School Dimapur, Mrs. Roslyn Singh Ahluwalia and Colonel Ajay Ahluwalia. The program concluded on a celebratory note with an exhibition and talent show. Mr. KL. Pamei graced the event as the special guest. The informal session featured captivating performances by Child Rights Club members and Child Rights Facilitators, including singing and dancing. The event was a resounding success, not just in its celebration of youth and community involvement but also in raising awareness about the pressing environmental issues facing Dimapur. The call for collective action and responsibility echoes in the hearts of all who attended, inspiring hope for a cleaner, safer environment for all residents.
